As an arborist, owning a hedge trimmer is an excellent tool to have in any tree service company.

Many tree companies overlook the beautiful finish that an excellent hedge trimmer may offer in comparison to a powered chain saw. As an arborist who owns a tree and landscaping company, I have found that this tool comes in handy more often than not. When describing the tools that are part of a tree trimming operation, a hedge trimmer is not the one that most arborists would mention. Many pieces of equipment are part of the tree crew’s arsenal. You have chainsaws, wood chippers, pole pruners, pole saws, and even a stump grinder. There is a saying that says that when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. I have seen many tree surgeons try to complete specific jobs with a chain saw that could have been done better and faster with a hedge trimmer, I think all of us have been guilty of this at some point in our career. I have found that for proper tree trimming and tree removal services, the chainsaws with adequate handsaws, will suffice. The hedge trimmer should bu used when attention to detail is impeccable. Certain tree species grow well as hedges like the ligustrum, ficus, and the willow, like the one in the link below. https://amzn.to/2LUFWxB

Developing tree species into beautiful hedges is a way to use natural elements to accomplish transitions between spaces or to block off unwanted views or create a friendly screen between neighbors instead of using fencing or block walls. I venture to say that the proper use of the hedge trimmer has contributed to many increased property values enriching the aesthetic appeal of many communities. There is plenty of curb appeal that can be accomplished by the use of proper landscape edging and proper hedge use throughout a landscape. When mentioning the hedge trimmer, the first thing that most of us think of is a landscaping company, but as an arborist or tree surgeon, I think it fits in well as a specialty tool that we can adequately use in the right place.

There are also times when a particular tree can be rounded over with a much more cleaner look if it had completed with a hedge trimmer than a chainsaw. A fellow with a chainsaw that offers himself as a tree topper or a tree company that still provides tree topping is an operation that should send up a red flag. The distinction between rounding over and topping is as follows.

Topped tree, this is unhealthy for the tree, and devalues properties.

There are ethical guidelines that, as certified arborists, we abide by, there are numerous amount of tree service companies that unscrupulously advertise themselves as having a certified arborist on staff. It is your right as a paying customer to make sure you have one overseeing the work on your property. A professional certified arborist always carries their industry issued card on hand and not just a number conveniently advertised on their business card. You should be able to cross-reference the name of the card to their government-issued ID. With so many imposters, I wish more people would ask to see my credentials instead of just taking my word. When I use my credit card at a store, I always at ease when they ask to see my ID; it gives me a sense of security. I would feel as good if more people would ask to see my credentials. If this is too confrontational for your style, you can also check their number on the association’s website, www.isa-arbor.org. If you feel hesitant doing this, just imagine that they hack your trees, and your property value suffers because of it. If having a great landscaping design will improve your property value by up to twenty percent, what can having your trees improperly pruned do to the value of your property? There is too much at stake here for you to cross your fingers and hope they know what they are doing. Having the credentials of a certified arborist means we have met the industry guidelines and have passed our industry exam that is governed by our professional peers. Many times people associate professionalism with the price they will have to pay. Certain times paying a higher price upfront for the expertise will allow you as the property owner to be at peace, knowing that the job will get done correctly. It also means that you will have the presence of a professional from the industry, making the correct calls.

Finding your passion

Running your own business and being the ultimate shot caller is excellent. As a business owner who understands the intricacies of business ownership, I applaud People who dream of owning their business. Many of us romanticize with owning a company because of what we fell it represents. Running a business is like raising a child if you want it done correctly, and to your liking, you must involve yourself. Just do not try to be the best at everything because it’s a trap. So, my first unbreakable rule to increase the possibility of creating a successful business is to have a passion. The experts say that the encouragement our parents gave us growing up is wrong, we cannot be anything we want, we can only be that which we have a passion for, I will go further and say that there are many unfulfilling things we can do to pay the bills.

We can become quite competent at many things, but we will never become extremely fulfilled and significant at anything if the passion lacks. When we work with obsession, there’s never any pushing; there is only an incredible pull toward significant work. In his book, T. Harv Ecker wrote about a formula with the acronym of TFAR, where it stood for Thought, Feeling, Action, Result. The thought is your vision or excellent idea, the feeling is the tip of passion, the action would be your obsession, and the result would be the product.

Once you open a company, it does not mean that you have arrived and that a title on your newly developed business card will suddenly increase your salary. You will most likely experience a pay cut. I know this does suck, and no, I am not kidding. Let this be one of your first lessons, we live in a world of now, of rewards, of everyone wins. Please learn this term and begin to engrave it into your mind; it is called delayed gratification. You can look up the name, but I will tell you what I’ve learned that it means.

Sacrifice today for tomorrow; there is a saying that I will paraphrase not sure the origin, “today we do what most won’t, so tomorrow we do what most can’t.” There are very few businesses that can begin making life-changing money instantly. I will bring you those business owners here in this blog and explain how instant it was. In the meantime, I want you to begin getting comfortable with less money while envisioning a life of abundance, I know pretty ironic, believe me, I get it, but it will work. I also want you to remember why you wanted to get into business in the first place. Please write it down, so we don’t lose focus. I know that if you are still reading, you understand this, if it were that easy, everyone would do it. Accepting that it won’t be easy should encourage you, so many people will never go through this because as soon as it gets a little challenging, they fold. So here is another golden nugget, you must have staying power. The experts say that 80% of winning is showing up.

I will document some of my business stories as well as the stories of successful business owners. You will get to hear first hand the books that they read, the habits they developed, and the transformations many of us had to go through to become more prominent. You will find that there will be great days and that you would never trade being a business owner for going back as an employee. I will share with you books that have impacted who I am today and have helped me navigate through dark days of business and family ties as they all comingle in this world of the self-employed.

Poised to Lead, Welcome to my first leaders and business blog

I intend to reach and speak to the person who has the burning desire for more and is tired of playing small. You have always wanted to do more, to be more, to contribute more. You are filled with endless possibilities of fantastic ideas; in fact, ideas come to you so readily that if you had documented them all, you could have sold a book titled “Hundreds of great ideas from product launches to business platforms.” It would have sold through Amazon, another great idea that you did not act on, not to worry, I have a plan, and if you stick with me you will get your ‘mojo’ back, and we will have you not only thinking of more great ideas but getting you into action. I once read somewhere, that ideas are a dime a dozen, but action trumps all. If you are poised to lead, then you are at the right blog. I, too, was stuck, but then I did a couple of things, and now I am ‘unstuck’ and very grateful. It’s not an excellent psychological place to be in when you are stuck; in fact, it sucks. I will tell you that if you are willing to change your game, add some features, and slight modifications, I will help you find your purpose. We will find it together. This will be the blog that turned it around for you. I can almost guarantee it. It’s simple, but it’s not easy. In the next blog, I will share more of my story, and in the upcoming blogs, I will begin to bring forward-thinking minds that have gotten into action and are now where you want to be. Be on the lookout for my next blog, and feel free to leave me a comment below. Thank You.
